JUNIOR TENNIS OVERVIEW

SLT&CC offers age-appropriate instruction for junior members aged 4 to 17. In addition to teaching juniors basic tennis techniques and strategies for match play, the SLT&CC program focuses on creating a positive learning experience so that our youngest members develop a love for the game. Whether they go on to compete at the national level or enjoy the game as a life sport, SLT&CC provides an opportunity for juniors to work hard, have fun and improve their game while receiving instruction from a team of expert instructors.

Instruction offered for the Junior Program begins with afterschool instruction in June, followed by an eight-week summer camp offered throughout July and August. Parents have the flexibility to tailor their child’s schedule on a weekly basis, and extended day options are available.

Event and Clinic Offerings

SLT&CC has a Junior Tennis Team that competes in the Monmouth County Junior Tennis League (MCJTL). Our juniors also compete in inter-club matches against other beach and country clubs in the area. Our Junior Club Championships are played in August, and categories include both singles and doubles in four different age categories. Each summer, the President’s Cup is awarded to the players who most exemplify the ideals of sportsmanship in our great game. Other fun junior events include the Junior Member Guest and the Parent-Child Tournament. The season ends with an Award Ceremony and pizza party for all junior program participants.

Calling all junior players! Time to break out your whites and get off to an early start to the tennis season! SLT&CC Junior members are invited to learn and hone their games with Andrej and his staff this April, May and June. Games and drills will be used to teach players eight and older stroke production, court positioning, and tennis etiquette in a fun, social environment.

Players may sign up for one or all sessions! Spring sessions will run from 4PM to 6PM on weekdays. Make-ups for any clinics within a session that are cancelled due to poor court conditions will be scheduled by Andrej. Session costs will not be prorated or discounted if a player does not attend all scheduled lessons. You can register your junior player on the Event Calendar. See below for specifics of each Spring session.

The ages groups consist of the following players:

Ages 4-6
Tuesday-Thursday 9-10AM
Instructors utilize short court teaching techniques to provide a positive introduction to tennis fundamentals. Players use shorter racquets and reduced bounce balls to enable earlier rally.

Ages 7-10
Tuesday-Friday 9-11AM or 9-1PM
Instruction emphasizes stroke mechanics, scoring, and basic strategies of the game.  Short court teaching techniques are also utilized to allow players to feel comfortable on the court.

Ages 11+
Tuesday-Friday 9-1PM or 10-1PM
Instruction focuses on stroke production, proper movement, and advanced tactics while building self-confidence under match pressure. Simulated point play drills will be intense, challenging and fun!
